Alumni Association organized an Alumni webinar series on 11th February 2023 at 12.00 PM. The topic was on “Unlearn to Relearn: The Joy of Continuous Learning” by Mr. Xavier Francis, Associate Director, Simplilearn. Mr. Xavier currently supporting Simplilearn’s commercial business in India and have been in the Edtech space for almost a decade now. Looking at the interest of the topic we have used Google meet and You tube live streaming to reach every student.

The following topics were covered under his talk.

  • Breaking the myth on learning stops at college
  • Why continuous learning is important
  • Present some stats on skill landscape changing and fast
  • Using some SL stats (# of learners per month, companies they represent)
  • Learning as a hygiene
  • What are different ways to make it a habit
  • Recommendation: SkillUp and similar free resources

Unlearning and relearning require us to change and challenge our own beliefs, habits, and comfort zones. Recognizing and resolving internal resistance can help us overcome the fear of the new. The future is a not-yet-into-focus picture from where we are standing.

Continues learning is self-motivated persistence in acquiring knowledge and competencies in order to expand skill set and develop future opportunities. It forms part of our personal and professional development in an effort to avoid stagnation and reach our full potential.

The WHY? Continuous learning is important

  • Many of the jobs that today’s students will be doing in 2030 haven’t been invented yet
  • On average, 94% of business leaders report that they expect employees to pick up new skills on the job
  • The number of global gig workers is expected to rise to 78 million in 2023
  • 4K+ new individuals onboard on just one of the learning platforms every month

The HOW?

  • Learning is not a task, but a habit
  • Be a child
  • Make it fun
  • Who is your Friend?

The session was outstanding and provided further ideas on how students can have a habit of continuous learning. It gave practical strategies and ideas to help learners explore, unlearn, and relearn, get ready to let go of outdated mindsets and be empowered to shape the world by making choices that transform our personal experiences.

At the end Dean-Library and Alumni Relations highly appreciated his talk and thanked him for delivering excellent presentation on the said topic.
