Mental Health Initiatives, Suicide Prevention Measures, and Student Wellbeing Support
The Department of Counselling through NHCE, submitted a comprehensive report to the National Task Force for Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention detailing the institution’s ongoing initiatives to strengthen psychosocial safety and student wellbeing. In alignment with the Ministry of Education’s directives, NHCE has implemented structured systems for early identification, timely intervention, and continuous monitoring of student mental health concerns. The National Task Force survey link was circulated to all engineering students, and the counselling team briefed them on the purpose, confidentiality, and national importance of the mental health data being collected.
Students completed the 40‑minute survey with sincerity, and faculty members, parents, institutional representatives, and mental health providers also participated as per guidelines to contribute multi‑stakeholder insights. Following this, the counselling team conducted an internal institutional survey mirroring the national survey to maintain campus records, identify early‑warning signs, and plan targeted workshops and individual interventions.
NHCE’s counselling ecosystem includes qualified counsellors, clinical psychologists, and psychotherapists who regularly conduct classroom sessions on stress management, emotional regulation, interpersonal relationships, and resilience-building. Strict counselling protocols are followed, including informed consent, confidentiality, and transparent procedures for safety-related exceptions.
Students are encouraged to seek support for emotional distress, academic pressure, family issues, peer conflict, relationship challenges, and symptoms of anxiety or depression in a safe, non‑judgmental counselling environment. Regular workshops, awareness drives, and preventive mental health campaigns reinforce help‑seeking behaviour and significantly reduce potential suicide risk on campus.
NHCE reaffirms its commitment to prioritising student wellbeing, strengthening resilience, and fully supporting the Ministry of Education and National Task Force in implementing best practices for safeguarding student mental health across India.
