Kannada Rajyotsava Celebration at NHCE
On November 6, 2024, New Horizon College of Engineering celebrated the 69th Kannada Rajyotsava and 52nd Karnataka Sambhrama, commemorating Karnataka’s foundation with a vibrant array of cultural events, traditional rituals, and joyful moments. The occasion was graced by distinguished guests Ms. Sudha Bargur, a celebrated humourist and Kannada literary figure, and Mr. Mimicry Dayanand, a renowned mimicry artist and comedian. Their presence brought a light-hearted, humorous touch to the day, enriching the cultural experience for everyone in attendance.
The event began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries, symbolizing knowledge and the essence of Karnataka. This was followed by a floral tribute to Karnataka Maathe (Mother Karnataka) in honour of the state, and a heartfelt rendition of the Naada Geethe, Karnataka’s state anthem, evoking a sense of pride and unity among attendees. The cultural program commenced with an energetic Kamsale dance performance by MBA students, showcasing a traditional folk art that enthralled the audience with its lively rhythm and dynamic movements. Following this, the Principal of New Horizon College of Engineering formally welcomed the dignitaries, guests, and students. In his address, he emphasized the significance of Kannada Rajyotsava, underlining the importance of preserving Karnataka’s language, heritage, and values. He also acknowledged the New Horizon Educational Institution Trust’s Kannada Rajyotsava Award, received in 2012 from the Chief Minister of Karnataka, as a mark of the institution’s commitment to the state.
A memorable highlight was the laughter-filled interaction and performances by Mrs. Sudha Bargur and Mr. Mimicry Dayanand. Mrs. Bargur, known for her wit and sharp observations of everyday life, shared humorous stories in Kannada that resonated with both students and faculty, humorously reflecting on college life and Kannada culture. Her relatable anecdotes added a warm, personable tone to the celebration.
Mr. Mimicry Dayanand captivated the audience with his remarkable mimicry and comedic talent. His impressions of popular Kannada personalities, including actors and political figures, were spot-on, drawing enthusiastic applause and laughter. Blending humor with insights into Kannada cinema, he connected with the audience and elevated the celebratory atmosphere with his impeccable timing and relatable jokes.
The event also featured various cultural performances by students from New Horizon College of Engineering and New Horizon College, Marathahalli. Traditional dance performances highlighted Karnataka’s rich folk traditions and classical heritage, while musical presentations of popular Kannada songs celebrated the spirit of Karnataka’s landscapes, people, and culture.
The Registrar concluded the event with a heartfelt vote of thanks, followed by the distribution of sweets. Kannada Rajyotsava 2024 at New Horizon College of Engineering was a vibrant celebration, bringing together students, faculty, and esteemed guests for a day filled with tradition, culture, and laughter. It ended on a joyful note, instilling a renewed sense of pride among attendees. Through students’ enthusiastic participation in dance, music, and the humour shared by Ms. Sudha Bargur and Mr. Mimicry Dayanand, the college demonstrated its dedication to celebrating and preserving Karnataka’s cultural heritage in a way that resonated with young minds. The Kannada Rajyotsava celebration beautifully wove together culture and comedy, creating lasting memories and a deeper appreciation for Karnataka’s unique identity.
