Drug-free Campus Environment

The Department of Counselling conducted a Preventive Awareness Programme on Drug Abuse during the ODD Semester 2025–26 to promote a drug‑free campus environment for all undergraduate students. The initiative aimed to sensitise students to the harmful effects of smoking, alcohol, weed, and vaping while highlighting the academic, psychological, physical, and social consequences of substance use.

The sessions were designed to build awareness, encourage early help‑seeking behaviour, and reinforce the Counselling Cell as a confidential and non‑judgmental support system. Conducted throughout November, the interactive sessions used simple language and relatable examples to help students understand the impact of drug use on concentration, emotional regulation, decision‑making, health, and future career prospects. A safe and inclusive atmosphere allowed students to freely share their doubts and thoughts, with counsellors emphasising confidentiality and emotional safety. Students were also reminded that approaching counsellors is a positive step when dealing with stress, confusion, or peer pressure that they may hesitate to discuss with parents or teachers.

Active student participation demonstrated strong engagement, and many expressed relief in knowing that accessible support systems exist on campus. The programme successfully strengthened awareness about substance abuse, reduced stigma around counselling, and increased trust in the Counselling Cell.

The initiative contributed to fostering a safer, healthier, and drug‑free campus culture. As a follow‑up, the institution plans to invite medical professional, Dr. Tarachand from a rehabilitation centre to provide expert insights and to conduct further sessions and individual counselling for students requiring additional support.
