ANTI-RAGGING DAY - 2024

Anti-ragging Day is an important annual event celebrated in India to raise awareness and promote a safer and more inclusive educational environment. The day commemorates the AntiRagging Act passed by the Indian government in 1997, aiming to eradicate the practice of ragging, which involves bullying, harassment, and hazing of students. The Anti-Ragging Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at New Horizon Colllege of Engineering on 12.08.2024. The event aimed to raise awareness among students about the harmful effects of ragging and the importance of creating a safe and inclusive environment on campus.

The program began with warm note by Dr. Manjunatha, Principal, NHCE, where he emphasized the college’s zero-tolerance policy towards ragging and also encouraged students to actively participate in making the campus a ragging-free zone. The chief guest for the event was Dr. Priyadarshini Sanikopp, ACP, Marathahalli Sub Division, Bangalore delivered a powerful and insightful speech that underscored the critical need to eradicate ragging from educational institutions. She shared personal anecdotes and referenced legal frameworks that strictly prohibit ragging, urging students to understand the severe consequences of such actions. She also praised the college’s efforts in organizing this event, emphasizing that awareness and preventive measures are crucial in creating a supportive campus environment. The chief guest Dr. Priyadarshini Sanikopp was felicitated by Dr. Manjunatha, Principal, NHCE, in presence of Mr. Surya Prakash, Registrar-NHEI, Group Captain Tarun Batra, COO-NHCE Dr. Sakthivel Aruchmay, HoD-EEE, NHCE.

An anti-ragging pledge was taken by all students and faculty members, vowing to stand against any form of ragging and to promote a culture of respect and kindness. Followed by this a documentary on anti-ragging was also screened, showcasing real-life stories of students who have suffered due to ragging. The film left a profound impact on the audience, stirring emotions and reinforcing the message of the day. The event concluded with a vote of thanks followed by National Anthem.
