A REPORT ON SOCIAL AWARENESS ACTIVITY

On 22nd April 2023, the Alumni Association organized a social awareness activity – a visit to an NGO- Sparsha Trust, Mathikere, Hesaraghatta, Bengaluru.

Sparsha Trust is a voluntary, non-profit organization working for the holistic development of needy and vulnerable children. It has designed the following programs: Shikshana Mitra, Gnana Mitra, Makkala Mitra, and Chinnara Thangudhama. It has also established a safe platform for destitute and abandoned children to provide essential services and integrate them into the mainstream society. Sparsha Trust cares for 182 children and provides support to more than 600 children in the community through Gnana Mitra. The organization has successfully rehabilitated 1250 children by enrolling them in local schools with a success rate of 95%.

Upon arrival at the trust, the staff of Sparsha Trust greeted the students & alumni. First, they elaborated on the organization and the work done by them. Next, students interacted with the Sparsha Trust staff members about their challenges in running the organization. They also learned about the various programs and initiatives taken to ensure the well-being and education of the children.

The students mingled with the children in the play area. Activities organized during the visit included passing the ball, a musical chair, a running race, and a volleyball match. The New Horizon College of Engineering students performed dance and drama for the children, giving them a reason to believe that passion and education go hand in hand.

Finally, the eagerly anticipated time had come—the award distribution ceremony. The winners walked away with tokens of appreciation while their friends cheered and applauded them.

This visit was a fulfilling experience for students of NHCE & the Alumni; they understood the importance of supporting and caring for vulnerable children and appreciated the work done by the staff members in providing them with a safe and nurturing environment. Furthermore, it inspired them to take up social initiatives that could make a difference in society and the importance of promoting education and equal opportunities for all children.
