NSS Swachh Bharat Drive in Begur

The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit Cell of New Horizon College of Engineering organized a cleanliness drive under the “Swachh Bharat” initiative. As informed by our program officer on the previous night, the volunteers started to assemble in campus by 6 AM in the morning. Our college graciously offered transportation for the volunteers for this activity. At around 6:45 am, we started our journey to the first destination, which is the Shri Panchalinga Nageshwara Temple in Begur. This temple is also known as Nageshwara Temple. Two shrines within the temple complex, Nageshvara and Nageshvarasvami, were built during the rule of the Western Ganga Dynasty kings Nitimarga I and Ereyappa Nitimarga II in the 9th and 10th centuries. The remaining shrines are believed to have been constructed during the time when the Chola Dynasty, Hoysala Dynasty, and Vijayanagara Empire ruled the region. We reached our first destination by 7:40 am. After we reached the temple, our program officer distributed the garbage collection bags and brooms to the volunteers, with the help of which the volunteers started cleaning of the temple premises. Volunteers put up great efforts and cleaned up the temple premises also they visited each of the shrines and took blessings of the God, thereafter after having their breakfast. Then we proceeded to the second location, a small fort in the vicinity of the Begur, known as the Begur fort.
