New Horizon College of Engineering’s Students’ Startup TSC Technologies P Ltd, Bangalore, India successfully launch UNITYsat aboard the PSLV C-51 Amazonia Mission on 28th February 2021.

“Dreams don’t work unless you do.” But what if you are a college student with dreams that unleash themselves far up in space? Well, this Blog will take you through the success of a group of students from wanting to explore the space to starting a company after graduation that made satellites.

The young group of well informed and technically sound graduates transformed into young entrepreneurs with a startup – TSC Technologies P Ltd, Bangalore, India. The team ‘provides turnkey project support with respect to nanosatellites globally to meet the needs and demands of their clients. They also make single engagements and multi-source models while working closely with their clients to reduce costs.

TSC Technologies P Ltd, run by Nikhil Riyaz, Tarun Sai Reddy, Ashwin Shankar Reddy, Bhavana Savanth, Denzel Abraham George, Joshua Tom Jacob, Kajol Shamdasani, Athira Ajayakumar, Mithun Venkat, Sainath Vamshi, Sanketh S Huddar and Vishwa Gopal built three Satellites (JITsat, GHRCEsat and SriShakthiSat) for their client as Joint Development and launched them successfully through ISRO’s PSLV C51 on 28 Feb 2021 from India’s spaceport Satish Dhawan Space Center (SDSC) at Sriharikota, India.

The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) is a medium lift expendable launch vehicle designed and operated by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

It all started when these intellectual and perceptive students stepped into NHCE with a bundle of dreams and hopes. What set this small yet unsubdued group apart was their unquenchable thirst for space, rockets, satellites and more. They were always neck-deep into understanding the complex mechanisms of the machines and wanted to understand how each of the systems worked. They read, heard, watched and learned. As time went by their inquisitive nature was known to all.

Their curious nature led them to interact with – Dr. K. Gopalakrishnan (Dean of NHCE’s R&D Department) who mentored them throughout this journeyThis interaction pushed them to take up new challenges, build confidence, help gain technical know-how and give them an opportunity of a lifetime.

Over the course of their college years, the students would learn more in detail about space, satellites and rockets. They would spend days and nights after and before classes in the presence of their mentor and lecturers.

TSC Technologies P Ltd, was promoted by ITCA (Indian Technology Congress Association) for 4 Years, they also nurtured them through the Indo-Israel Space-Tech Leadership Programme, CSPD-Serbia, Samara International Summer School, Russia, UNISEC, Japan, International Space University, Strasbourg, France, Sapienza University, Rome, Italy etc.

On the 6thApril 2021, ITCA held an event at The Leela Palace, Bangalore, India to celebrate the successful design, development, fabrication, integration, testing, launch and operation of the UNITYsat aboard the PSLV C-51 Amazonia Mission. The event was chaired by Dr. C. N. Ashwath Narayan, Honorable Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka and Honorable Minister for Higher Education, IT&BT, Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka. The guests of honor also included Padma Shri Prof. R. M. VasagamPadma Shri Mylswamy Annadurai, Dr Wooday P Krishna, Dr L. V. Muralikrishna Reddy, President, ITCA and Dr. K. Gopalakrishnan, Secretary General, ITCA, Dean (R&D), NHCE and Mentor, TSC Technologies P Ltd, NHCE Students’ Startup. It was also graced with the presence of various senior and eminent engineers/scientists from ISRO and various industry leaders.

NHCE helped these aspiring engineers gain maximum exposure. Alongside their general education provided by NHCE the students were trained at IIT-Kanpur, International Space University, Strasbourg, France, Samara National Research University, Russia, The Committee on Space Research (COSPAR)-The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA)-Tel Aviv University, Israel, University Space Engineering Consortium (UNISEC)-Tokyo University, Japan and Committee for Space Programme Development (CSPD). This exposure would help them create a strong unbeatable foundation to start their own company. With the help of their mentor of 4 years and an endless list of in-depth analysis, practice with world-renowned industry influencers and achievements began a journey that took off the instant they graduated. They were able to build an excellent set of networks and impress influencers, leading them to their first 3 clients, which is how UNITYsat came about.

These young minds have proven to have enormous potential and a bright future ahead of them. They work hard and have even gone to the extent of setting up labs and 3D printing satellite parts in their houses. They wish to work for developing countries in building satellites and helping them discover, learn, and educate their population. The entrepreneurs have also successfully filed multiple patents and wish to take their company to heights undiscovered and unfathomable. We wish them all the best and hope more students dream big!
