Guest TalkRole of Educational Institutions in Food Sustainability and Animal Welfare
The NSS Unit Cell of New Horizon College of Engineering successfully organised an insightful guest talk on “Role of Educational Institutions in Food Sustainability and Animal Welfare” on 24 April 2026 in the MBA Seminar Hall for NSS volunteers. The session aimed to create awareness about sustainable food practices and the ethical responsibilities of individuals and institutions.
The talk was delivered by Dr Philip, Specialist in Food Policy and Farm Animal Protection at Humane World for Animals India, who shared valuable perspectives on sustainable food systems, ethical food choices, and the role of educational institutions in promoting environmental awareness and animal welfare. His address provided students with a broader understanding of the impact of their everyday choices.
He highlighted the One Health Approach, emphasising the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health. The session also focused on the benefits of plant-based dietary practices and mindful lifestyle choices. Drawing from his professional experience as a food technologist with reputed organisations and non-governmental organisations, Dr Philip made the session both engaging and informative.
The programme was coordinated by Prof. Hanamant Yaragudri, NSS Programme Officer, under the guidance of Mr H. N. Suryaprakash, Registrar, and Dr Manjunatha, Principal. The event concluded with an interactive discussion, followed by a vote of thanks, presentation of a memento to the guest speaker, and the National Anthem, marking a meaningful and memorable session for all participants.
